Basic Interventions

To establish a base line information by carrying out research on existing addictions, distribution of drugs, alcohol and tobacco as well as the practice of gambling and technology addictions.
To carry out scientific and evidence-based activities/projects targeting youth to protect them from bad habits of addiction
To establish strong network of volunteer groups in Primary schools, secondary schools and universities to increase social awareness on the harmful impact of addictions
To work on advocacy activities to strengthen addiction related legislation
To liaise and partnership with the national and international organizations with the same vision and mission as the Somali Green Crescent society, participate as active member and cooperate with them in the fields of addiction research, prevention and advocacy
To establish Somali green crescent branches and representatives in all states and regions of Somalia
To widely disseminate the awareness messages through all channels of media and establish strong connection with the media to increase social awareness.
To establish rehabilitation centers in the country for the rehabilitation, treatment and management of drug addicts.
To establish an information center to be the center point for all addiction related issues, publish bulletins, newspapers and IEC materials to make the addiction awareness related messages readily available
To develop syllabi for education institutions and disseminate them
To establish close collaboration with the line ministries and government agencies in the fight against, drug, tobacco, alcohol and other kinds of addictions

The official name of the association is “BISHA CAGAARAN EE SOOMAAIYA” Somali Green Crescent Society SGCS”. The organization will empower youth and adults with factual information about drugs so they can make informed decisions against different kinds of addictions including chewing Qat/khat, tobacco, drug, alcohol gambling and technology etc
