About us
Somali Green Crescent Society is nongovernmental and non for profit organization which was founded by Somali intellectuals from an assorted set of backgrounds on 5th May 2015 in Mogadishu Somalia, which endeavors to protect the society especially youth from all kinds of addiction. Although there were individual efforts and trails to act against the increasing addiction in the country, the focus areas of SGCS are the different kinds of addictions which are increasing in Somalia, mainly tobacco, drugs, chewing Qat/khat, gambling, technology and alcohol addictions, this had negatively affected the society, the impact of which is increased physical and mental health problems, school drop outs, continuous violence and instability, increased family problems and poverty and disintegration of the nation that risks the national unity. It is due to these facts that a team from different academic background such as health, social science and law society decided to act and protect the society from the harmful effects of addiction and therefore initiated the foundation of Somalia Green Crescent Society.
